Why You Should Not Shop Weekly | Aspire Money

That Weekly Shopping Trip - A Thing of the Past

We all remember getting out the pen and paper to write the list in preparation for that dreaded weekly shop. Pushing the trolley with the wonky wheel up and down each and every aisle, filling it with enough food to last the week… However, it seems this tradition of the weekly shopping trip is becoming a thing of the past with at least 44% of us Britons now visiting the supermarket more than once a week.

Why the Decline in the Weekly Shop?

There are a number of reasons for this, for example there are a lot more convenience stores popping up across the country making it easier for us to drop in for the odd bit of shopping. And a lot of people have taken to doing the bulk of their shopping online and just popping to the supermarket for bits and bobs.

However, the main reason for the weekly shop becoming a thing of the past is due to money. People's finances are not in the best of shape due to the economic climate which means that many of us simply haven't got the cash to pay for a weekly shop. Instead we are popping into the shop a few times a week, £20 note in hand in order to budget carefully.

Another reason we are visiting the supermarket much more regularly is that in order to buy the cheapest food we need to visit various different supermarket chains in order to get the best price!

For many of us, sticking to a strict budget each week ensures we make it through to the next payday.
